Learn@Lunch: The Importance of Taking Care of Our Mental Health
Wed 5/22/2024 • 12PM - 1PM PDT
According to data from the 2022 California Health Interview Survey, more than 1 in 6 adolescents and adults in California — including 27.1% of adolescents ages 12–17 and 29% of adults ages 18–39 — said they experienced serious psychological distress during the past year.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and it is a time to pay attention to how our mental health affects us, as well as those around us. However, our mental health requires our persistent attention beyond this month. That's why we have invited the UCLA Staff and Faculty Counseling Center (SFCC) to join us for the next Staff Assembly Learn@Lunch.
SFCC counselors Liena McCord, LCSW, and Karina Valderrama, LMFT, will share helpful information to help you gain a better understanding about mental health, including myths and facts, cultural implications and stigmas, and how to recognize signs, as well as various tools you can use daily to improve your own mental health.
Additionally, the SFCC provides various services and resources to staff, including: counseling, consultation, and coaching; management consultation and coaching; departmental training and support groups; and crisis management. Read more about the SFCC
