Intro to Git/GitHub Workshop

Fri 1/29 • 9AM - 1PM PST

Version control is the lab notebook of the digital world. It’s what professionals use to keep track of what they’ve done and enables collaboration with others. Every large software development project relies on it and most programmers use it for their small jobs as well. And it isn’t just for software: books, papers, websites, data sets and anything that changes over time or needs to be shared can and increasingly should be stored in a version control system.

After this course, learners will be able to:

Recognize why version control is useful

Distinguish between Git and GitHub

Create a git repository

Track and manage changes to files using the git repository

Create a remote repository on GitHub and link it to a local repository

Create a website using GitHub Pages
