Los Angeles (LA) Health Initiative
Currently, our mission is to help pre-health and pre-medical students during the COVID-19 pandemic to be able to have a sense of community with each other in a virtual environment. One of our club’s main goals is to engage in community outreach and raise awareness about not just medical issues but also social issues in medicine. We also hope to create a welcoming and collaborative environment where anyone can join and students who may not have had the most experience can have a chance at gaining leadership, research, shadowing, and volunteering experience that will help improve their resumes. We also hope to invite speakers (physicians, nurses, and other health workers) to help inform students about health-related fields and the process of getting a career in those fields. Our club will have an all-around approach, meaning that we will try to have all different kinds of opportunities for students: volunteering/community outreach, research, volunteering, mentorship, leadership, resume building, class planning, and even social activism. We also want this club to be flexible and open to changes and suggestions for new developments that can be made by the members of the club, who will help guide the future of this club. We want to allocate leadership positions and opportunities to students who show that they are the most committed to the club, rather than students who may have lots of prior experience but aren’t as dedicated to the club.
