Global Language and Culture Initiative (GLACI)

Global Languages and Culture Initiative (GLACI) is dedicated to spreading cultural awareness and understanding through language learning. Especially in an era of increasing political strife and division within society, we believe that it is essential for students to be equipped with the knowledge and understanding to hold meaningful conversations meant to unite, not to divide. Every quarter, we learn the basics of a target language from a different geographic region and explore the traditions, values, and history of the culture attached to it. At the end of each quarter, we will hold a showcase to demonstrate the culmination of our efforts, including but not limited to language exchange events with native speakers from on-campus ethnic clubs and the surrounding community. Every year, club members will also have the valuable opportunity to attend a global polyglot conference and converse with like-minded individuals from all stages of their language learning journeys. By providing our members with a broad variety of firsthand experiences, we ultimately hope to foster the growth of globally aware citizens and to promote an open-minded environment for collaboration, learning, and discussion.
