San Francisco-based saxophonist Kasey Knudsen leads her sextet in creating spacious and evocative compositions. Each piece weaves improvisation into melodic and rhythmic themes which develop into imaginative new directions. Alexa Peters at Paste magazine called Knudsen one of ten women who are redefining jazz, adding “along with playing cascading, virtuosic solos, Knudsen experiments with sound design and effects, transforming the jazz listening experience.” In addition to leading her own projects, Knudsen has also collaborated with artists including Tune-Yards, Fred Frith, Charlie Hunter, and more.
