Dialogue Across Difference: Student Leadership Program Skills Building Workshop #1
Thu 1/18/2024 • 6PM - 8PM PST
LATC Straus Clubhouse, UCLA
This Dialogue Across Difference (DaD) Skills-building Workshop #1 will provide the Student Leadership Program cohort with examples of different kinds of dialogue and bridge-biding frameworks that exist. It will highlight the different goals or outcomes of those frameworks (e.g., intergroup contact, multistakeholder decision making, transformational mediation, etc.), and will introduce the ladder of inference as a useful framework to understand why conversations across difference can be challenging.
About the Dialogue Across Difference Initiative: The Dialogue across Difference initiative aims to model and promote the values of intellectual engagement, curiosity, empathy, active listening, and critical thinking.
About the Student Leadership Program: The DaD Student Leadership Program aims to (1) empower students to develop the skills and practices of modeling and advancing critical, open, and respectful discourse on UCLA’s campus, and (2) provide training to support the design and implementation of campus activities that foster dialogue across difference and encourages members of the academic community to exit their ideological silos.
