Dr. Charlene Niemi

Dr. Niemi has vast experience in multiple public/community settings that include school health, correctional health, faith-based nursing, and public health nursing. Her research focuses on health literacy and social determinants of health; stigma in family members of those incarcerated; and childhood trauma and well-being. Her PhD in Nursing is from Azusa Pacific University with a dissertation on the role forgiveness has on the psychological well-being of men who had been abused by priests as children. An important aspect of her life involves community outreach where she is the Director of Health Education and on the Board of Directors for Care Harbor- a mega clinical that provides free medical, dental, and vision care in a large metropolitan city. Dr. Niemi is a recipient of the DAISY Faculty Award and an Emeritus faculty member at California State University Channel Islands.
