Free • Lunch Provided Redressing Systemic Biases in Research & Living Your Values in Academia Tools from Feminist Science Studies Universities are often described as impartial sites of knowledge creation. But what counts as a valid research question, methodology, or form of evidence is shaped by cultural forces and disciplinary histories. This workshop invites graduate students from all fields to examine the ongoing impacts of eugenics, colonialism, and patriarchy in academia—and consider how we can challenge them. Participants will gain: Intellectual frameworks from feminist science studies Tools for recognizing systemic bias in research Strategies for aligning academic practice with personal values Approaches for taking action toward greater equity New ways to strengthen the accuracy, relevance, and impact of research

Join the UC Davis Feminist Research Institute for a workshop exploring how feminist science studies can help us recognize and redress systemic biases in research and academic culture. Feminist Approaches to Improve Lab Culture, Research Accuracy, & Public Impact How do histories of eugenics, colonialism, and patriarchy continue to shape research today? This workshop offers faculty and researchers in all fields practical tools for recognizing how exclusionary histories influence research questions, methodologies, interpretation, and academic environments. Participants will explore how addressing systemic bias can: Improve the accuracy and impact of scientific research Generate more innovative approaches to pressing contemporary issues Create more equitable and welcoming research environments Support junior scholars and strengthen lab culture Turn feminist insights into actionable research practices Facilitated discussion • Practical tools • Resources for action About the Facilitator Sarah Rebolloso McCullough, PhD, runs the Feminist Research Institute at UC Davis, whose mission is to transform research culture to be more accurate, impactful, and humanizing. She created the Asking Different Questions research training program, which teaches feminist science & technology studies to justice-driven STEM researchers. She also conducts research in knowledge justice, environmental justice, mobility, justice, and university-community relations. She earned her PhD in Cultural Studies with a designated emphasis in Feminist Theory & Research at UC Davis.
