Sunset Recreation HCI Garden
Join us on Monday, November 17th from 2:30-4pm at the Sunset Recreation Garden for the Seeds of Intention Workshop, a healing and reflective community gathering. In collaboration with Bruin Underground Scholars and HCI Gardens, we’ll connect through the grounding practice of gardening nurturing both the soil and our personal growth. This event centers and uplifts students who are justice-impacted, in recovery, or impacted by addiction, providing a space for healing, connection, and reflection. Participants will have the opportunity to plant seeds symbolizing their intentions for the year ahead and share brief stories of resilience, growth, and renewal. Light meal provided! What is the HCI Garden? In partnership with the Semel Healthy Campus Initiative Center at UCLA, envisioned and supported by Jane and Terry Semel, the jane b semel Healthy Campus Initiative Community Garden provides an on-campus space for the UCLA community to grow healthy food and foster education of urban gardening practices. Important: If you do not RSVP by November 10th, you are still welcome to attend the event. However, please make sure to bring your Bruin Card for admission. All currently enrolled UCLA students have access to the Sunset Recreation Center with their Bruin Card.

Guided by Indigenous perspectives, each circle will explore one of the Four Directions North, South, East, and West through storytelling, cultural sharing, and reflections on our relationships with the Earth. Gardening Experience: Each session will include a hands-on gardening component, where participants can engage directly with the land through planting, tending, and harvesting activities. This immersive practice provides an opportunity to cultivate both plants and a deeper connection to the natural world. Enjoy food history demonstrations curated by The People’s Café, highlighting ancestral foodways and community nourishment.
