Empowered Teaching: Ungrading 101 Workshop
Tue 5/20/2025 • 12PM - 1PM PDT
Charles E. Young Research Library (YRL), Room 21570
Please join us for the "Empowered Teaching: Ungrading 101” workshop, hosted by the UCLA Teaching and Learning Center (TLC) and facilitated by Caroline Kong and Sammy Solis.
In this workshop, participants will explore “ungrading,” a framework that eliminates or greatly minimizes the use of assigned points or letter grades. Ungrading is a potentially transformative framework for instructors and students that emphasizes student learning rather than grades. Participants will identify the differences between grading and assessment and distinguish between different types of assessments. Finally, participants will learn about different strategies for ungrading, including considerations for different class sizes and disciplines, and will also troubleshoot obstacles to implementing ungrading.
The event will be held on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, from 12 pm to 1 pm in 21570 Young Research Library. All instructors, TAs, postdocs, and instructional support staff are welcome to attend. Lunch will be served. Please register by close of business on Tuesday, May 13. For questions, please contact edp@teaching.ucla.edu.
